A 2025 survey by the Children\u2019s Commissioner found:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>99.8%<\/strong> of primary schools restrict phones<\/li>\n<li><strong>90%<\/strong> of secondary schools do the same<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Despite this, many heads say phones still creep into lessons, corridors and playgrounds.<\/p>\n<p>Ofsted has backed stricter enforcement, supporting leaders who take a firm stance. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/mobile-phones-in-schools\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The government has also reiterated its guidance that phones should not be seen or heard during the school day.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.birmingham.ac.uk\/news\/2025\/school-bans-alone-not-enough-to-tackle-negative-impacts-of-phone-and-social-media-use\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">But research from the University of Birmingham suggests rules alone aren\u2019t enough.<\/a> Schools that simply ban phones don\u2019t always see improvements in wellbeing or academic outcomes unless the policy is embedded into daily routines and supported with clear systems.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s why many schools are now looking for practical tools to make phone\u2011free environments sustainable \u2014 and where Phone Locker\u00ae has made a difference.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>What\u2019s Phone Locker\u00ae?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/phonelocker.marklanham.com\/products\/phone-locker-pouch\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Phone Locker\u00ae\u2019s secure, lockable pouches offer schools a simple and consistent way to enforce phone\u2011free policies.<\/a> Students keep their devices with them, but can\u2019t access them until the end of the day.<\/p>\n<p>This removes the daily argument over confiscation and brings clarity to a policy that can otherwise be hard to apply.<\/p>\n<p>Schools already using Phone Locker\u00ae report:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Calmer classrooms<\/li>\n<li>Fewer phone\u2011related behaviour incidents<\/li>\n<li>More engaged students during lessons and break times<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Teachers describe it as removing the friction \u2014 the rules stay the same, but enforcement no longer depends on confrontation.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Effective Phone Bans<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>For most schools, the debate isn\u2019t whether phones belong in classrooms, but how to manage them fairly and effectively.
